OneTouch® Test Strips in the UK
LifeScan UK has recently become aware that a small number of people in the UK purchased or received OneTouch® Test Strips imported from other parts of the world which are not used in the UK. Even though these test strips were imported independently and without the knowledge or consent of LifeScan UK we are still concerned for your safety and well-being.

What happens if I use the imported test strips?
Use of the imported test strips will give you a blood glucose reading higher than you would get if you used a LifeScan UK-supplied whole blood-calibrated test strip. This might make you think that your blood sugar is too high and if you are taking insulin, you may think you need to increase the dose.

These imported OneTouch Test Strips are designed to measure the glucose in your blood but to give a reading as if the measurement was made only in the plasma part of your blood. (The imported OneTouch Test Strips are of our normal high quality but are plasma-calibrated whereas the test strips used in the UK are whole blood-calibrated.)

How can I tell if I am using the imported test strips?

  • Imported packs: The imported test strips are in a graduated blue box with a thick maroon stripe. See picture. The imported strips are in a vial that carries the wording 'Genuine 25 OneTouch Test Strips Plasma Calibrated' in a blue text box. Only English is used. The imported test strips have a pattern made up of little hands.
  • UK-version packs: The UK-version test strip carton is dark blue. The words 'whole blood calibration' appear on the front and back of the carton against a yellow background. The carton also carries the UK and Ireland OneTouch® Customer Careline numbers. See picture. The UK-version strips are in a vial that carries the words 'OneTouch 25 Bendelettes Teststrips Test strips' against a blue background. The words on the vial appear in three languages - French, Dutch and English.

What should I do next?
If you find that you have test strips that match the description for imported packs then you should contact your Diabetes Nurse or GP to make them aware that you have these imported test strips and to seek their advice on how to change to the LifeScan UK supplied whole blood calibrated test strips.

If you are unsure whether you have these strips, you can contact either your local pharmacist or call the OneTouch® Customer Care Freephone on 0800 121200.

Note: This information does not affect use of LifeScan's OneTouch® Ultra® Meter or PocketScan® System.
